Mary L. Clinton

May 13, 1952 - August 26, 2013

COOPERSTOWN - Mary L. Clinton, "Mother Mary", a longtime and well-loved resident of the Cooperstown area, passed away Monday morning, August 26, 2013, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown with her loving family by her side. She was 61 years old.

Born May 13, 1952, in Herkimer County, Mary was the daughter of the late Albert Andrew and Florence (Clements) Loomis. In her youth she attended Richfield Springs Central School.

Mary devoted her life to her children and did everything she could to provide for them. Through the years she was employed at many places throughout the Cooperstown area. At one time she worked for W. L. Taylor & Son as a counter clerk at the Village Tower and later at America's Game on Main Street in Cooperstown. She will be remembered for her outgoing and friendly nature.

Mary is survived by her husband of 29 years, Dale Clinton, of Fly Creek; two daughters, Cynthia R. Shepard and her fiance, Brian Hascup and his chldren Alex and Brady, of Cooperstown and Laura Ann Smith and her husband, Jeffrey, of Edmeston; two sons, Patrick Shepard and his wife, Kim Johannesen, of Cooperstown and Sean Clinton of Cooperstown; six grandchildren, Shelby McLean, Amanda Burgher and her husband, Jason, Chelsey McMichael and her husband Tyler, Cendra Crawford, and Jordan and Eric Loucks; three great grandchildren Emma, Lyndon and Jacob; and two sisters, Susan O'Hare and her husband Wesley of Odessa, MO and Kathy Waro and her husband Michael of Cooperstown. She is further survived by her first husband, David Shepard and his wife Susan of Fly Creek; several nieces, nephews, aunts uncles and cousins and many beloved friends.

Friends are invited to call to pay their respects at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Friday, August 30, 2013, from 5-7 PM when Mary's family will be in attendance.

A graveside service will take place on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 11 AM in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery in Fly Creek, with the Rev'd Paul Hunter, Curate of Christ Church in Cooperstown, officiating. Following the service there will be a reception at the Fly Creek Grange Hall on Cemetery Road in Fly Creek.

Joseph W. Langan

September 12, 1918 - August 17, 2013

COOPERSTOWN - Mr. Joseph William Langan, 94, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, August 17, 2013, at Otsego Manor while receiving the Last Rites of the Roman Catholic Church.

He was born at home in the Park Slope section of Brooklyn on September 12, 1918, the youngest of nine children of Peter and Anne (Cahill) Langan. Raised and educated in Brooklyn, he was a graduate of Pratt Institute.

First employed by an engineering firm in New Jersey, Joseph served with the United States Merchant Marine during World War II, and was later employed as an engineer by the State of New York with the Office of General Services. Upon his retirement he moved from Albany to Roseboom, where he served for a time as the caretaker at Belvedere Lake and as Town Assessor. In 2007, Joseph became a resident of the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home in Cooperstown, and made his home there until moving to Otsego Manor in June of this year.

Joseph is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Madeline Langan of Tully; two grandsons, Thomas A. Langan and Kevin E. Langan and his wife, Jennifer; one great grandson, Joseph Edward Langan; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Helen Maloney whom he married on September 14, 1946, at Holy Name of Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Brooklyn. Helen died February 10, 1981. On November 12, 1983, Joseph married Vivian Wilson Young, who died December 10, 2006.

Joseph was also predeceased by one son, Donald J. Langan, who died February 2, 1992, and all of his siblings.

Friends may call and pay their respects at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut Street, Cooperstown, on Tuesday, August 20, 2013, from 4-6 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2013, at St. Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake" Roman Catholic Church in Cooperstown, with Fr. Scott VanDerveer, Associate Pastor at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church in Oneonta, officiating.

The Service of Committal will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, 2013, in the Interment Chapel at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.

Richard L. Fowler, Jr.

Richard L. Fowler, Jr., 59, died August 9, 2013, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown following a long illness.

Rick was born in Fulton and grew up in the Hannibal and Fulton area. He had been living in Oriskany Falls for the past 17 years.

Rick is survived by his mother, Marilyn DeLorio of Round Lake; a brother, Benjamin DeLorio of Watertown, MA; four sisters, Debra Fowler of Saranac Lake, Sheryl Fowler of Delmar, Susan Fowler of Albany, and Elizabeth DeLorio of Murrieta, CA, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Rick was predeceased by his father, Richard L. Fowler, Sr., who passed away in 1997.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm. on Saturday, August 24, 2013, at the Hannibal United Methodist Church in Hannibal. Following the service there will be an interment service at the Fairdale Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in Rick's memory.

Joseph William Heim

January 28, 1944 - August 7, 2013

Joe Heim passed peacefully in his sleep after a busy day of work on his beloved East Hill Tree Farm in Cherry Valley, NY. He, with the love of his life Barbara Miller, was building memories here and in New Jersey.

Son of Mary Eileen Heim and Joseph Heim (who died during World War II), then stepson of Daniel F. Noonan, Joe was born in Brooklyn, NY. He spent his early years in River Edge, NJ, attended Don Bosco High School, and then Michigan State University, where he studied forestry. Joe went on to receive an MBA from NYU. Forestry served him well as he developed his tree farm; a passion that brought him great joy as he harvested the mature trees he helped plant as a young man.

His career path was diverse and began with a goal of fire jumping for the forest service. Over time, however, his MBA opened corporate doors and he accepted a position with Smith Corona. Soon he would begin a long run in the automotive industry, as manager, executive and owner in companies that included Ford, Lincoln Mercury, Renault, Jaguar, and Mercedes Benz. His final professional role was with ADT's home security business. Joe had extraordinary passion for all things mechanical and applied his vast mechanical and business skills with exuberance and excellence. He was surely born with a wrench in his back pocket. His organizational discipline complimented every aspect of his being, from work to play. He viewed everything with a skilled eye and always seemed to know how things worked. He was a voracious reader and student of the world and could never consume enough knowledge.

Joe loved to compete, whether in the workplace, or on the basketball, tennis or beach paddle tennis courts. From our earliest memory, that glint in his eye and sly in his smile bespoke his humor, but a more serious man you could not find. It was apparent in how he competed with himself as well as others. A life-long romance with the road, Joe was a prolific traveler. Those who knew him would eagerly anticipate a wealth of stories upon his return. Whether on two wheels, four wheels, land, sea or air, his joy was the journey, not the destination.

Amongst the many credos Joe embraced was the maxim to look at life through the windshield rather than the rear-view mirror.

He was an over the top, larger than life, man who always encouraged others by saying, "You have earned the right to expect a positive outcome."

Joe often referred to "An Old Farmer's Advice", which included the adage, "Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God."

Joe was passionate about people, places and things. He is survived by his sons, Matthew and Jay Heim; three sisters, Pamela Noonan of Cherry Valley, NY, Gail St. Pierre of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Barbara McCoy of Orlando, Florida; and three brothers, Guy Noonan of Saint Augustine, Florida, Greg Noonan of Cherry Valley, NY, and Dan Noonan of Campbell Hall, NY. The extended relations include William Suchoski (deceased), Joe St. Pierre (deceased), Les McCoy, Joan Noonan and Kristina Noonan. Nieces and nephews canvas a broad geography, and include Heather (St. Pierre) and Syara Kahn, Eileen (St. Pierre) Franer, Christopher St. Pierre, Lauren McCoy and Caitlin, Connor and Sean Noonan.

A private celebration of his life will be held at East Hill Farm in the near future.

Joan M. McCaffrey

May 3, 1924 - August 3, 2013

COOPERSTOWN - Joan Mary McCaffrey, a native of Ireland, passed away early Saturday morning, August 3, 2013, at Otsego Manor. A resident of Cooperstown for the past 9 years, she was 89 years old.

Born May 3, 1924, in Galway, Ireland, she was a daughter of John Joseph and Mabel (Boylan) Glynn. Raised and educated in Ireland, she eventually married James McCaffrey in 1955 and soon after they emigrated to the United States and raised their family.

For many years, Joan resided in Bay Shore on Long Island, where she was employed as a receptionist for South Shore Urology.

She will be remembered for being proud of her Irish heritage, as well as her devotion to the Rosary which she recited innumerable times throughout her life.

Joan is survived by one daughter, Ann M. Marsala and her husband, Joseph, of Cooperstown; two sons, Peter McCaffrey of Manhattan and John McCaffrey and his wife, Kathy, of Clayton, North Carolina; and three granddaughters, Gianna and Erin Marsala and Kayla McCaffrey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1966, and all of her siblings.

A Memorial Service will be offered at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with Deacon Randy Velez officiating.

As an alternative to flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Jon J. Dangl

October 14, 1955 - July 29, 2013

BURLINGTON - Jon Joseph Dangl, a former communications engineer for Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, died Monday, July 29, 2013 at his home in the Town of Burlington. He was 57.

Born October 14, 1955, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, he was a son of the late James Alan and Joan Carol (Smith) Dangl.

After graduating from high school he attended Mohawk Valley Community College and earned an associate degree in communications. After living for a time in Florida he moved back to the Cooperstown area in the 1980s. For twenty-three years he was employed as a Communications Engineer for Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, retiring in October 2011.

Jon possessed a love for aviation and enjoyed attending air shows and flying radio controlled planes with his sons. Through the years he also had a love for dogs, and had a soft spot for his current pet, George.

While living in this area Jon was a member, at various times, of the emergency squads in Fly Creek, Schuyler Lake and Hartwick.

Jon is survived by his wife, Shirley Jean M. Dangl of Springfield Center; his four children, Jon Benjamin Dangl and his wife, April, of Burlington, Vermont, Nicholas Wayne Owings Dangl and Danielle Rosner of California, James Stoller Dangl and Susan Clark of Cooperstown and Melissa Ann Johnson of Laurens; two grandchildren, Jazlyn Marie Lawton and Leon Marble Summers; one sister, Jean Carolyn Henning and her husband, Joseph, of Dayton, Ohio and their children, Jessica Lynn Henning and Jonathan Michael Henning.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Friday, August 23, 2013 from 1-2 p.m.

At the conclusion of the visitation on Friday, a Memorial Service will be offered at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ronald Fralick officiating.
