Anthony G. Martucci

August 19, 1926 - February 18, 2012

COOPERSTOWN - Anthony George Martucci, a kind, loving and gentle family man, died early Saturday morning, February 18, 2012, at his home in the Town of Middlefield. The loving husband of Josephine Martucci, he was 85.

A native of Staten Island, Anthony was born there in the neighborhood of Rosebank on August 19, 1926, a son of Anthony and Catherine (Mangino) Martucci. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy and entered into active duty October 23, 1944. He proudly served his country in the Philippines during World War II. He mustered-out August 9, 1946, and then served in the United States Navy Reserves.

On March 31, 1951, Anthony married Josephine Rosalie Ciaburri in a ceremony at St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church on Staten Island. The couple settled in Midland Beach where they lived and worked and raised their family.

For many years, Tony, as he was known by his friends, worked for The Brooklyn Union Gas Company and retired from there as a Customer Service Supervisor. He also worked for G&R Bus Service driving a school bus for special needs children and, always the consummate handyman, did a lot of odd jobs for many people on Staten Island.

In September of 1993, the Martuccis moved to Cooperstown and settled into their new home on Fred Ottaway Road in the Town of Middlefield. 

For 47 years, Anthony was a member of the Knights of Columbus Manresa Council No. 2147 in New Dorp Beach, Staten Island, and, since moving to upstate New York, was a member of the Sgt. Walter P. Eggleston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7128 in Cooperstown and the Milford American Legion Post No. 1566.

He will be remembered by his family and friends as an ardent fan of the New York Yankees, for his love of puzzles, and a person who always loved being with his family.

Anthony was preceded in death by two sons, Anthony Martucci, who died December 17, 2005, and Joseph Martucci, who died September 17, 2009. He was also predeceased by three brothers, Salvatore Martucci, Frank Martucci and Joseph Martucci, and three sisters, Christina Bove, Victoria Grasso, and Rosie Errichello.

Anthony is survived by his wife of almost 61 years, Josephine, of Cooperstown; their children, Barbara Martucci of Manhattan, James Martucci and his wife, Diane, of Charlotte, NC, Richard Martucci of Cooperstown, and Frederick Martucci of New City; 12 grandchildren, James, Manuel, Thomas, Tara, Nicole, Anthony, Salvatore, Joseph, Danielle, Alyssa, Adrianna, and Briana; and one great grandson, Ryan.

He is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Anthony (Drema) Martucci of Chesapeake, Virginia, and Mrs. Joseph (Ann) Martucci of Monroe Township, NJ; two sisters, Anna Held and Evelyn Allen and her husband, William, all of Staten Island; and many nieces and nephews.

Anthony's family will receive friends from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 22, 2012, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut Street, Cooperstown.

A Funeral Service will be offered at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home. Immediately following the funeral service, military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of the Sgt. Walter P. Eggleston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 7128 in Cooperstown, the Milford American Legion Post No. 1566 and a contingent from the United States Navy Funeral Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial donations may be made in Anthony's memory to either The American Heart Association, Heart Gifts Processing Center, P.O. Jane H. Patrick

COOPERSTOWN - Mrs. Jane H. Patrick, of Cooperstown, passed away peacefully February 2, 2012, in her home in the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home from complications related to pneumonia. Prior to living there, she had lived for over thirty years on Chestnut Street in Cooperstown.

A native of Portsmouth, Virginia, she worked for several years during World War II in the fiscal department of the Norfolk Navy Yard before graduating from Mary Washington College. She then worked for the IBM Corporation in Washington, DC, where she met and married her husband, Selwyn "Pat" Patrick, in 1951. Jane and Pat raised their two sons in Kensington, MD, before retiring in 1972 to Cooperstown where they both became very active in the community.

After Pat's death in 1990, Jane continued as an active volunteer at Bassett Hospital and was a trustee for the hospital from 1984 until 2005. She was admired for her ability to talk to anyone about anything. She was a member of the Women's Club of Cooperstown and served as its president from 1984-1986. She also served as a school guide at the Farmers' Museum, a volunteer at Fenimore House and as a substitute teacher at Cooperstown Central School. She was a member on the Foundation Board of Pathfinder Village and served as the chairman for two years.

The Catholic Church was near and dear to her heart and Jane was an active parishioner at St. Mary's in Cooperstown. She served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister and was active in the formation of the Eucharistic Ministry program at Bassett Hospital.

Jane will be especially missed by her dearest friends, including the group she dined out with known as the "Dinner Belles". In addition to being missed by the Village of Cooperstown, she will be very missed by her family. She was the center of their world. Jane is survived by her sister, Ethlyn Howard of Portsmouth, VA, and her sons, John and his wife Lori of Endicott and David and his wife Sally of Boston, MA. She had four grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah and husband Lucas Osborne, Elizabeth and Evan, and a great-grandchild, Vivian.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 AM on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at St. Mary's "Our Lady of the Lake" Roman Catholic Church, 31 Elm Street, Cooperstown, with Fr. John P. Rosson, pastor, presiding.

Theodosia Jones

COOPERSTOWN - Theodosia "Teddy" Jones, wife of the late Hank Jones, who was one of the most respected jazz pianists of the postwar era, died on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Otsego Manor in Cooperstown.  She was 100.

For many years, Teddy lived with her husband on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and also had a home in Hartwick.

Service arrangements are pending at this time.
