Mark S. Zimmerman

1973 - 2016

ONEONTA - Mark Stephens Zimmerman, General Sales Manager at Royal Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Oneonta, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, July 27, 2016. He was 43.

Born March 30, 1973, in Buffalo, Mark was the son of Greg Zimmerman and Barbara (Zauner) Reinhardt. He graduated from Grand Island Senior High School.

Possessing a life-long love of cars, Mark enjoyed rebuilding antique cars, going to car shows, as well as riding his Harley whenever he could. He was involved in automobile sales for 22 years, and since 2001 has been General Sales Manager at Royal Chrysler Jeep Dodge in Oneonta.

Mark loved spending time with his children. He also enjoyed searching for vinyl records for himself and his children, who also had a great love of music like their father.

He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Mark is survived by his four children, Samantha Ann, Katelyn Sydney, Ryan Nicholas and Emily Elizabeth, and their mother, Elizabeth Zimmerman; his mother, Barbara Reinhardt; his father, Greg Zimmerman and his wife, Sue; his sister, Eileen Helms and her husband, John; his mother-in-law, Barbara A. Dickison; as well as nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless business associates and customers.

He was predeceased by his step father, Robert J. "Bob" Reinhardt, who died August 8, 2013, and his father-in-law, William S. Dickison, who died January 1, 2003.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut Street, Cooperstown from 2-5 p.m. on Monday, August 1, 2016, when Mark's family will be in attendance.

Immediately following the visitation, all are welcome to gather at Cornfield Hall, 655 County Highway 26, Fly Creek, for a time of refreshment and fellowship.

At the request of Mark's family, funeral services will be private.

Kathleen Baker Casey Wallace

1947 - 2015

SPRINGFIELD CENTER - Kathy was born in 1947 in Tottenville on Staten Island and died December 29, 2015, in Springfield Center of natural causes.

Kathy felt most comfortable with animals, and worked at the Staten Island Zoo in the early 1970s. She was a homemaker her entire life.

She may have been known around her adopted town as "that crazy horse lady," but she was also known as sister, Mom and Mimi.

She is survived by three children, Trish Casey-Green of Chesterfield, Virginia, Joseph Casey of Plainfield, New Jersey, and Charles Wallace of Las Vegas, Nevada; one granddaughter, Arlie DeMeo of Chesterfield, Virginia; and her siblings, Lliz Baker Pinelli of Southington, Massachusetts, Thomas Baker of San Diego, California, and Mark Baker of Barre, Vermont, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. 

There will be a small graveside service at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 22, 2016, at Springfield Cemetery, corner of State Highway 80 and US Highway 20, followed by a gathering from 12-3 at Baker's Beach on Canadarago Lake, 8114 State Highway 28, Richfield Springs, where the family will be happy to reminisce with Kathy's friends. Her family encourages you to stop by at that time to pay your respects.

David John Thuma

1959 - 2016

COOPERSTOWN - David John Thuma, 57, died unexpectedly Monday, July 11, 2016.

Of Czechoslovakian and Polish ancestry, David was born May 6, 1959, in Riverhead and raised in Yaphank on Long Island. He was the second of three boys of Charles Frederick Thuma, Sr. and Frances Szuster Thuma.

Raised on Long Island, David attended Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences. After earning a bachelor's degree in agriculture, he managed Agway feed stores in Peru, Malone, Schenevus and Milford. When Agway began closing stores he started a new career, attending Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare's School of Radiology to become a certified radiology technologist, and was the top of his class. For the past 26 years he has been employed by Bassett Healthcare Network at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown in the Radiology Department where he conducted many CT Scans and MRIs. He strived for excellence in all he did.

David was a wonderful husband, son and brother and will be missed forever. 

David is survived by his wife of 27 years, Mary Anne Thuma of Cooperstown; his father, Charles F. Thuma Sr., of Oneonta; and two brothers, Charles F. Thuma, Jr. and wife, Sue, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and their children, Elizabeth, Melissa and Robert, and Albert P. Thuma and wife, Kristen, of Cave Creek, Arizona, and their three boys: JP, and twins Sam and Nick. He is further survived by his father-in-law, William S. Tiel of Oneonta; sister-in-law Lynn Stone and husband, John, of Florida; a nephew, William D. Cave and wife, Kelly; a niece, Sarah A. Cave; and many cousins. Also, the best JRT's Ish & Z.

He was predeceased by his mother, Frances S. Thuma, who died January 1, 1995, and his mother-in-law, Kathryn Ruff Tiel.

At the family's request, services will be privately held.

Raymond C. Lawlor

1943 - 2016

ONEONTA - Raymond C. Lawlor, 73, passed away early Saturday morning, July 9, 2016, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, due to complications from his illness. 

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, on May 23, 1943, Ray was a son of John and Harriet (Arps) Lawlor. At a young age his family moved to Florida where he spent most of his childhood. 

He moved back to the New York/New Jersey area where he worked for over 40 years as an electrician. For a time he owned and operated his own company, Aladdin Electric based in Sayreville, New Jersey. A member of the National Electrical Union #4, he worked in later years as an electrical inspector for both commercial and residential properties in New York.

On November 8, 1986, Ray married Beverly Heady in a ceremony at Ladentown United Methodist Church in Pomona. Since 2000 they have resided in Cooperstown. 

In his leisure, Ray enjoyed playing tennis, fishing and deep sea diving. He also served as a baseball umpire for local schools and at Cooperstown Dreams Park, and loved watching a variety of sports as well as going to the casino. 

Ray is survived by his wife of 30 years, Beverly; a daughter, Beth; son Bill and fiancé Nellie; stepson Clayton and wife, Sherry; four grandchildren, Katelyn, Brendan, Ashley and Eric; two brothers-in-law, Stan and wife Cathy and Bill and wife Terry; as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Harry, and a brother, Robert. 

Family and friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016. A memorial service will be offered at the funeral home at 4 p.m. that afternoon, with the Rev. Betsy Jay, Chaplain at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, officiating.

Ray will be laid to rest at a later date in St. Peter's Cemetery in Haverstraw.
