Ann Catharine Casey


June 28, 1965 - December 24, 2012

NISKAYUNA - Ann Catharine Casey, 47, passed away on December 24, 2012, following a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia (AML).

Ann was born June 28, 1965, in Cooperstown to John Earl Casey and Jane Ann Feeck Casey.  

After graduating from Cooperstown Central School with the Class of 1984, she earned a BA/BS from the College of St. Rose. She worked for Pace Analytical Services, Inc. (formerly Northeast Analytical) for twelve years. Previous to that she worked for the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe and SUNY Research Foundation. Ann was known for her extensive knowledge and enthusiasm, especially in the field of PCB chemistry.

She was a member of the Otsego Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.

Ann was preceded in death by her father, John, who died May 7, 2005.  

Ann is survived by her spouse, Dana Wagemaker, and their children, Emily, Sarah, Andrew and Catie; her mother, Jane Ann Feeck Casey; her brother and sister-in-law, George and Dorothea Casey and nephew Michael; her mother-in-law, Patricia Wagemaker; her brother-in-law, Kim and Mary Anne Petrie and her niece and nephews, Nathan Petrie, Maureen Petrie and Eric Fical, and Matthew and Brandy Petrie.

A Memorial Service will be offered at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2013, in Christ Church, Cooperstown, with the Rev'd Mark A. Michael, rector, officiating. The Committal Service and inurnment will follow at the Ecumenical Columbarium in the Church-yard.

For those who wish to honor Ann, donations in her memory may be made to an educational fund for her children that has been established through Pace Analytical Services, Inc. (attention Jessica Hills), 2190 Technology Drive, Schenectady, NY 12308.

Theodore E. "Ted" Lamb


October 15, 1932 - April 26, 2013

COOPERSTOWN - Theodore E. "Ted" Lamb, a native of Cooperstown who will be remembered for his faithful devotion to his beloved village, died Friday morning, April 26, 2013, at his home on Linden Avenue. The husband of Celia B. Lamb, Ted was 80 years old.

Born October 15, 1932, at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, the son of Eldred J. and Beatrice A. (Pratt) Lamb, he was a sixth generation descendent of Deigh Chamberlin who settled the Westville-Hooker Mountain area in the early 1800s. In his youth, and later with the help of Harry Peplinski and Bob Pierro, Ted enjoyed operating the ski tow located on the family farm in Pierstown.

After attending the Cooperstown Central School, Ted served his country in the United States Navy from 1952 until he was honorably discharged in 1955. He married Celia Blessin in Cooperstown on September 30, 1955.

In the early 1950s he began his employment with the Village of Cooperstown in the Streets Department and was also a part-time Village Police Officer. He was later employed by the Cooperstown Central School, as a custodian for 31 years and as a bus driver for more than 46 years, having the joy of busing four generations of children. For 43 years he was the friendly ticket seller at Cooperstown Central School's basketball games.

A 57-year member of the Cooperstown Fire Department Engine Company No. 1 Ted took great pleasure in driving the Department's 1952 Mack Fire Truck, which he lovingly called the "Old Girl", for many parades and funerals. He was also a Cooperstown Native Son and a 57 year member of Clark F. Simmons American Legion Post No. 579 in Cooperstown. 

Ted is survived by his loving wife of  57 years, Celia B. Lamb of Cooperstown; two sons, Theodore E. Lamb, Jr. and his wife Kim of Clay and David E. Lamb and his wife Lorie of Schuyler Lake; six grandchildren, Taylor, Shelby and Cooper Lamb and Lindsey, Daeltun and Charlie Sue Lamb; one sister, Joyce A. Crowley and her husband Robert of Turnersville, NJ; one brother, Larry J. Lamb and his wife Sally of Pleasant Brook; one brother-in-law, Arthur Blessin and his wife Beverly of Fly Creek; one sister-in-law, Betty (Blessin) Schmigg and her husband Gene of North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Ted was predeceased by his three brothers, Lowell, Stewart, and John.  

The Lamb family will miss not only our husband, father and grandfather, but especially our "Best Friend".

Calling hours, which will be hosted by Ted's sons, will be at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 from 4 - 7 pm.

The Clark F. Simmons American Legion Post No. 579 will conduct a service at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by a Firefighter Memorial Service.    

At the request of the family, his burial service will be private at Hartwick Seminary Cemetery. He will be accorded the Final Alarm at the Fire Station and will be brought to the cemetery aboard the "Old Girl". 

It is requested by Ted's family that flowers not be sent. However, those who wish may make memorial donations to the Cooperstown Fire Department, P.O. Box 1, Cooperstown, NY  13326.

Elizabeth Jane Hathaway McManus


April 11, 1933 - April 27, 2013

FLY CREEK - Mrs. Elizabeth Jane Hathaway McManus, age 80, passed away Saturday morning, April 27, 2013, at Otsego Manor.

She was born April 11, 1933, in Hoosick Falls, a daughter of William and Ethel (Mattison) Hathaway. After graduating from high school, she attended and later graduated from the State University Teachers College at Oneonta.

It was while she was attending college that she met Harry Noel McManus, and the two were united in marriage on April 12, 1952, in a ceremony at the First Presbyterian Church of Cooperstown.  

Elizabeth truly loved and enjoyed teaching. She first taught full time in Delhi, but later moved to Fly Creek and substituted at schools in Cooperstown, Milford, Van Hornesville, and Richfield Springs. She also was employed as a Sales Tax Agent for the State of New York.

Devoted to her family, she will be fondly remembered for always being available to "pick up the slack" where needed, and was always ready to do whatever needed to be done. She also had a love for the natural world, and enjoyed bird watching, beekeeping, animals, as well as gardening. 

She was a long-time devoted member of the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, and was also a member of the Otsego-Hartwick-Arbutus Chapter No. 201, Order of the Eastern Star in Cooperstown.  

Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 61 years, Harry N. McManus, of Fly Creek; one daughter Carol E. McManus of Milford; one son and daughter-in-law, Neal and Gail McManus of Cooperstown; three grandchildren, Jonathan McManus and his wife, Rebecca, Michael McManus and Shannon McManus; two great grandchildren, Sawyer and Parker; two half brothers, Marvin Hathaway of Bennington, Vermont and Chic Thurber of Hoosick Falls; and several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be offered at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 2013, at the Fly Creek United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kurt Funke, pastor of Gilberstville Baptist Church, officiating.  

As part of the services at the church on Sunday afternoon, an Eastern Star Memorial Service will be conducted for Sister McManus by members of the Otsego-Hartwick-Arbutus Chapter No. 201, Order of the Eastern Star.   

The McManus family respectfully requests that flowers not be sent. As an alternative, please consider a memorial donation to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation, 1359 Broadway, Suite 1509, New York, NY  10018, or a local humane society.

The McManus family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to everyone at Otsego Manor for the kind, considerate and understanding care provided during Elizabeth's stay in their facility.

Marion E. Schneegas


November 13, 1932 - April 27, 2013

ROSEBOOM - Marion E. Schneegas, a longtime resident of Roseboom, died Saturday afternoon, April 27, 2013, at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown. She was 80.

Born November 13, 1932, in West Winfield, Marion was the only child of Theodore R. and Edith May (Miller) Bailey.  

Raised in West Winfield, she graduated from Mt. Markham High School.

On July 18, 1959, Marion was united in marriage to Carl Ellsworth Schneegas at the Portlandville Methodist Church. Mr. Schneegas died May 16, 1992.

For many years Marion was an active member of the Middlefield Volunteer Fire Department Ladies' Auxiliary. She enjoyed taking care of her home and especially loved her black cat, Tucker.

Marion is survived by her two sons, Dale L. Schneegas of Westville and Edward C. Schneegas and his wife, Judi, of Roseboom and two grandsons, David and Clayton.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, from 7-9 pm when Marion's family will be in attendance.

A graveside service will be offered at 2 pm on Thursday, May 2, 2013, in Westville Cemetery with family member Jacob Crewell, a member of The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Fort Plain, officiating.
