Jean Lois La Chaunce

March 5, 1930 - November 27, 2011

HARTWICK -  Jean Lois La Chaunce, a former resident of New Jersey, died unexpectedly Sunday, November 27, 2011, at her home in Hartwick. She was 81.

Born March 5, 1930, in the city of Hackensack, New Jersey, she was a daughter of Ellis and Edna (Ockenholt) Covert. Raised in Mahwah, NJ, she was employed for many years as an assembler and last worked for Ultimate Automotive Industries in Mahwah.

She married Richard J. La Chaunce on January 31, 1974, in Oakland, NJ. After his death in 1994 she moved to Hartwick in 2001 to be near her family.

A former member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Hillburn  Memorial Unit No. 309 in Suffern, she was an avid Bingo player.  Most of all, she always enjoyed getting together with family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was predeceased by a step-daughter, Holly Taylor.

Jean is survived by one brother, Robert Covert and his wife Ruth of Hartwick; two sisters, Mary Catherine Brangan of Bradenton, FL and Natalie Keene of Suffern; her nieces and nephews, Michael Covert and his wife, Theresa, of Hartwick, Kathleen Sammis and her husband, Jon, of Petersham, MA, Arleen Cagle of Bradenton, FL, Barbara Mojica of Schenectady, Patricia McKee of Bradenton, FL, William McKee of Chester, and Donald Keene of Suffern; and three step grandchildren, Kerri Starr, Kaitlyn Taylor, and Kyle Taylor all of New Jersey.

At the request of the family, services will be held privately in the spring of 2012.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's memory may be directed to the Hartwick Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 208, Hartwick, NY 13348.

Arrangements are under the guidance of Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
