Christopher John Lavery

November 19, 1960 - October 14, 2012

Christopher (Chris) Lavery, 51, died in Cooperstown October 14, 2012, after a brief, valiant battle with liver cancer.

Chris was born November 19, 1960, in Rockville Center and grew up in Manhasset. He graduated from Manhasset High School and earned an associate's degree from Suburban Technical School. He worked in St. Croix and Colorado before returning to New York. Chris was a state-certified electrician and a long-time employee of Verizon. He and his wife, Nancy, most recently lived in Sidney Center and frequently visited family and friends on Long Island.

Chris will be remembered for his personality, storytelling and resilience. He prized the Chevelle convertible he rebuilt with superb technical mastery, and he loved his Harley Davidson and his dog, Charley. Chris was a good athlete until injury limited him but did not slow him down. He became an excellent cook. He loved life and was a good friend. He will be greatly missed.

In addition to Nancy, he is survived by his mother, Pauline, his brothers, Gregory and Bryan, and his sister, Claire and their spouses, six nieces and nephews, and his aunts and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene.

A service in celebration of Chris' life is being planned.

Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to the St. Ignatius Middle School in the Bronx by mailing a check to New York Nativity, Office of Development, 44 Second Avenue, New York, NY  10003, or to a charity of your choice.
