Everett D. Kane

January 16, 1923 - June 29, 2014

MOUNT VISION - Everett David Kane, 91, of Mount Vision, passed away late Sunday morning, June 29, 2014, at The Otsego Manor in Cooperstown.

He was born January 16, 1923, in the Town of Carlisle in Argusville, a son of Herbert and Marjorie (Rector) Kane.

A veteran of the United States Army, he served his country from November 1948 until July 1949, when he received a military furlough to return home to do farm work. Following his farm furlough, he served five years in the Army Reserve.

He was first married to Carolyn Bider. He then married Laura M. Ainslie (Rowlands) on April 23, 1971, in Hartwick.  

A lifelong farmer, Everett owned and operated Kanemeade Farm in Mount Vision for many years. He ran the farm with his wife Laura, and later his sons Ronald and Rodger and grandsons Eric and Rodger, Jr. He was a familiar face in Laura's Restaurant, where he would come after his farm chores to help his wife close up.  

He was a member of the Hartwick American Legion Post No. 1567 and the Hartwick United Methodist Church. He loved country music, and for many years enjoyed being a square dance caller, singing with The Westernaires and Charlie Hughes and Cliff Fitch.

Everett is survived by his wife of 43 years, Laura, of  Mount Vision; his four children, Ronald Kane & wife, Marilyn, of Mount Vision, Robert Kane and wife, Barbara of Fly Creek, Rahlene Welch and husband, Michael, of Fly Creek, and Rodger Kane and wife, Faye, of Toddsville; 11 grandchildren, Chad Welch and wife, Jessie, Renee Vigilante and husband, Albert, Eric and Amy Kane, Shawn Kane and wife, Justina, Andrea Schoonover and husband, Eric, Mindi, Amanda and Rodger Kane, Jr,, and Nicole Bergman and Alison Jodway; three step children, Gail Twombly and husband, Richard, of Hebron, CT, Linda M. Tuller and husband, John, of New Berlin, and Larry R. Ainslie and wife, Barbara, of Hartwick; nine step grandchildren, Michael Grigsby, Michelle Coutroul and husband Jaime, Sean Twombly, Kristin Rumovicz and husband Rob, Matthew Tuller, Mark Tuller and fiancé, Amanda Curtis, Jeffrey Ainslie and wife, Aimée, Bradley Ainslie and wife, Carol, and Kathryn Hitchcock and husband, Dan; and many great grandchildren and step great grandchildren. He is further survived by two sisters, Harriet Tallmadge and husband, Jim, of Glen, and Lila McPhail of Canajoharie, and sisters-in-law, Shirley Kane and Aileen Kane.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Carolyn B. Kane, who died March 2, 2002; four brothers, Ernest Kane, Earl "Buzzy" Kane, Herbert "Herbie" Kane, Jr., and Robert Kane; one sister, Hazel Aspinwall and her husband, Ted; and a brother-in-law, Archie McPhail.

Friends may call at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown on Thursday, July 3, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 12 a.m. when Everett's family will be in attendance.

Immediately following the visitation, a Funeral Service will be offered at 12 p.m. on Thursday, with the Rev. Fred Albrecht and  Richard Twombly -- a member of the family -- co-officiating.  

The Service of Committal and Burial will follow in Hartwick Cemetery, with Military Honors to be accorded by member of the Hartwick American Legion Post No. 1567 and the New York State Military Forces Honor Guard.
