FLY CREEK - Alice Chase Lavrinos died
Friday, May 22, 2015, at Chase Memorial Nursing Home in New Berlin
where she had gone for a short rehabilitation stay. She was 87.
Born October 31, 1927, at Mary Imogene
Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown, she was the daughter of Curtis and
Maud (Korts) Chase.
She grew up on the family dairy farm on
the Hartwick-Index Road and graduated from Cooperstown High School
with the Class of 1945. She then attended Albany Business College,
graduating in 1946, and was employed as a medical secretary at
Bassett Hospital from that time until 1952. Alice then enlisted in
the United States Air Force and proudly served her country at various
air bases around the United States. Upon her honorable discharge in
1955 she returned to her former position at Bassett Hospital until
1958.
On September 24, 1957, Alice married
Nicholas J. Lavrinos in Cooperstown and lived there until moving to
Fly Creek in 1966 where they raised their two sons. In addition to
her role as wife and mother, Alice was active in various community
organizations. She was a member of the Fly Creek United Methodist
Church and a charter member of the Fly Creek Area Historical Society,
and at one time served as treasurer of both.
Having grown up on a farm, Alice
enjoyed observing nature and the changing seasons. She was also an
avid knitter and seamstress.
Alice is survived by her two sons,
Nicholas Lavrinos and his wife Debra Clark of Otego and Thomas
Lavrinos of Fly Creek. She is further survived by a
step-granddaughter, Kaitlin Holbrook (Mark) and
step-great-granddaughter, Alyssa, as well as several nieces, nephews
and cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband of
53 years, Nicholas J. Lavrinos, who died December 19, 2010, and her
brothers, Robert, Calvin and Chester Chase.
A graveside service will be offered at
3 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2015 in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery,
Fly Creek, with Pastor Mitchell Spring of Spirit and Truth Christian
Assembly in West Oneonta, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, Alice's family
suggests that memorial donations be made to the Fly Creek Volunteer
