1923 - 2018
COOPERSTOWN - Katherine E. Rose, "sunshine mixed with a little hurricane" and Matriarch of the family, passed away Friday morning, January 19, 2018, at Cooperstown Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing. She was 94.
Born April 16, 1923, in Cooperstown, she was a daughter of George P. and Edith E. (Olmstead) Allen. She attended Cooperstown schools.
Upon marrying Edward E. Rose, the two settled in Cooperstown and raised their family.
Kay is survived by three children, Kathleen Freeman and her husband Steve, Bruce E. Rose ("Bubby") and Cricket Kenney and her husband Joe (the #1 son-in-law); eight grandchildren, Audrey Marshall, Sebree Rizzo and her husband, Jim, Cody, Ashley, Jesse and Boone Rose, Michael Kenney, and Katie Murphy and her husband, Brian; eight great grandchildren, Isabel Brown and Deakin Rose, Claire and Erik Owens, Shamus and Molly Murphy, and Cora and Doran Rizzo; two sisters-in-law, Louise Allen of Cooperstown and Mary Luce of Troy; many nieces and nephews; and "Buddy-Cat".
She was predeceased by her husband, Ed Rose, who died February 22, 2008; a son, Michael A. Spore who died in 1974; a brother, Ellis H. Allen who died in 1989; and a sister, Ruth M. Gray who died January 28, 2013.
The family would like to thank the many kind staff members of Focus Rehab for providing compassion, friendship, and laughter throughout the years: you will never be forgotten.
There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held later this Spring in Hartwick Seminary Cemetery.
