1949 - 2019
COOPERSTOWN – Charles Michael “Mike” Stringer, a lifelong resident of the Cooperstown area died unexpectedly Tuesday, September 17, 2019, in his camper at Riverside Village Mobile Home Park in Portlandville. He was 70.
Born August 2, 1949, in Cooperstown, Mike was the son of Francis William Stringer and Ellen H. Shaw Stringer. After graduating with the Class of 1967 from Cooperstown High School, he attended Fulton-Montgomery Community College.
For many years, Mike served the community with many local businesses. He worked at Bassett Hospital as a cook as well as Lake Front Motel and for many years was a flooring installer at Endwell & Direct Floor Covering. He then had his own family flooring business, Mike’s Floor Covering, installing many new carpets and flooring for area residents and businesses. He then worked for the Farmers’ Museum and the Fenimore House and Bayside Inn & Marina before his retirement.
In his leisure he enjoyed motorcycling, hunting, fishing and most of all being “Papa” to his six loving grandchildren and watching them grow.
Mike is survived by his three children, Jude Ann M. Tooley, and husband, David and two daughters Emily and Elizabeth of Cooperstown, Michael Stringer, and wife, Jennifer of Cooperstown and two sons Colton and Dylan, and Bryan Stringer and wife, Stephanie, of Oneonta and daughter Cora and son Mason; their mother and his former wife, Monica Talarico and husband, Samuel of Springfield Center; a sister, Cheryl Ann DeVinny Miller and husband, John of Tennessee; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Stringer of Belton, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, William “Bill” D. Stringer, who died April 11, 2015, and his parents Ellen and Francis Stringer.
As per Mikes’ wishes, there will be no funeral service or calling hours. Mike will be laid to rest with his parents in the Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.
The family will host a Celebration of Life at the Cooperstown Veterans Club on October 12, 2019, at 2 p.m. All are welcome.
