Betty Ann Doloughty

1961 - 2024

COOPERSTOWN – Betty Ann Doloughty, lovingly known as “the crazy chicken lady” entered into eternal rest following a courageous battle with cancer early Monday morning, May 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family at her home on Greenough Road. She was 63.

One of nine children, Betty Ann was born March 14, 1961, in Red Bank, New Jersey, a daughter of Charles Harold “Chuck” and Jean Costine.

Raised in Highlands, New Jersey, by her father and mother, Joyce, the family moved to Navesink, New Jersey, in 1973. She graduated from Middletown High School South, Middletown, New Jersey, in 1980.

After high school, she married Brian T. Doloughty, and started their family while she worked as a candy striper. They had their first child, Brian T. Doloughty, Jr. in 1984, followed by their twins Heather M. Doloughty and John C. Doloughty in 1987. About a year after the twins were born Betty made the move up to New York closer to her parents for help with the kids as she continued her dreams in her nursing career after her divorce.

For over 30 years, Betty Ann dedicated her life to nursing, and faithfully served as a Licensed Practical Nurse, devoting most of her career to working at The Meadows, then Otsego Manor, Focus Otsego, and most recently Cooperstown Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.

In her leisure, she enjoyed caring for her many chickens, leading to her nickname, “the crazy chicken lady.” She also had a soft spot for anything to do with Betty Boop. She love spending time with her chocolate lab, Cocoa and her cat, Glimmer aka cat. She loved having BBQs and surrounding herself with family and friends every chance she got.

Betty is joining her father, Chuck, her beloved English Springer Spaniel Sophie and many friends at the pearly gates.

Betty is survived by her three children, Brian T. Doloughty, Jr. (Andrea) of Vestal, Heather M. Doloughty of Milford, and John C. Doloughty (Sam) of Hartwick and her dog, Cocoa. She was a proud grandmother to Landon, Finley, Lila, Mia, Wyatt, Waylon, Brooke, Carter, Emma, Onna and Kyle. She is further survived by her mother, Joyce Costine of Toms River, New Jersey, and her siblings, Dawn Tedesco of Oneonta, David Costine of Toms River, New Jersey, Carol Ann Kozak of Keansburg, New Jersey, Darren Costine of Port Royal, Virginia, Charles (Chicky) Costine of Port Royal, Virginia, Annette MacLeod and husband, Kelton of New Berlin, Mark Costine of North Middletown, New Jersey, and Andrew Costine and wife Staci of Pottstown, New Jersey, along with many nieces and nephews.

As there will be no services, as per her request, please remember Betty, smile, and know that she is at peace.
