Dennis A. Tallman

1942 - 2018

FLY CREEK, NY – Dennis Alfred Tallman, a man devoted to his family and a vital part of his community, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at the age of 76.

Born June 6, 1942, Dennis was the son of Harold Winfield Tallman and Francesca Louisa Krack Tallman. Dennis was a graduate of Toccoa Falls Institute in Georgia. A natural craftsman, he began his career in a cabinet shop in Westwood, NJ where he excelled, but found his true passion at Garden State Tree Service in Old Tappan, NJ. In 1982, Dennis and his first wife, Karen, moved from Cresskill, NJ to Fly Creek, NY where he started Tallman Enterprises Tree and Aerial Services. A man of the Episcopal faith, Dennis was a faithful and dedicated member of Christ Church in Cooperstown, NY. He was a past president of The Friends of Bassett, served on the Village of Cooperstown Tree Advisory Committee and volunteered at the Cooperstown Food Pantry.

Dennis possessed a very emotional and empathetic side to his personality, demonstrated in his ability to converse and connect with anyone he interacted with. He was creative, energetic, well-loved and helped many people through his years. Dennis was a role model to many and especially to his son, Kyle, after his marriage to Nancy. Not surprisingly, after working closely together for many years, Kyle found his passion in the tree business. Dennis loved splitting firewood, but also enjoyed riding his Harley with Nancy and friends. He treasured time spent with family. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Dennis is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Nancy Tallman; their son, Kyle S. Tallman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah and Robin Robinson and Dawn and Robert Geider; five grandchildren, Morgan and Michael Robinson, Amanda Thomas and husband, Dan, and Courtney and Eric Geider; one great grandson, Liam Thomas; and his former wife, Karen Steiner.

The Office of the Burial of the Dead with the Holy Eucharist (Rite I) will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 7, 2018, at Christ Church in Cooperstown, with the Rev’d Dane E. Boston, Rector officiating.

Immediately following the funeral there will be a reception in The Louis C. Jones Center in the Main Barn at The Farmers’ Museum, 5775 State Highway 80, Cooperstown.

Interment will be private in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Index.

In lieu of flowers, Dennis’ family respectfully suggests that memorial donations be directed to The Farmers’ Museum for the benefit of The Children’s Barnyard, PO Box 30, Cooperstown, NY 13326, or the Fly Creek Volunteer Fire Company or Fly Creek Emergency Squad, PO Box 218, Fly Creek, NY 13337.
