1914 - 2020
COOPERSTOWN – Martha A. Quinn, a former resident of Eastchester who had made her home in Cooperstown for the past 26 years, passed away early Sunday morning, January 19, 2020, in Hartwick at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Peggy Quinn, who were at her bedside. She was 105.
Born October 29, 1914, in Garfield, New Jersey, Martha was the last surviving sibling of 10 children of Harry and Anna née Cap Palubniak.
She married Edward Michael Quinn in 1947 and they lived in the Green Knolls area of Eastchester where they raised their family. Mr. Quinn passed away from cancer in 1955.
After retiring from a career as an executive secretary in the banking industry, Martha enjoyed playing golf and Bridge before moving to the Cooper Lane Apartments in 1993. In 2006, at the age of 92, she moved to the Clara Welch Thanksgiving Home where she spent 13 happy and productive years enjoying the company of the caring staff and her fellow residents.
Martha is survived by her son Michael Quinn and wife, Peggy of Hartwick; a daughter, Mary Quinn Doyle and husband, Brian of West Newfield, Maine; a son-in-law, Jerry Cavallerano of Sudbury, Massachusetts; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Martha was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Martha Cavallerano, who died in 2015.
Family and friends are welcome to pay their respects at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home, 82 Chestnut Street, Cooperstown, from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, January 22, 2020. At the conclusion of the visitation, Deacon Randy Velez will offer prayers.
The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2020, at St. Mary’s “Our Lady of the Lake” Roman Catholic Church, 31 Elm Street, Cooperstown, with Fr. David Wm. Mickiewicz, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, Oneonta, presiding.
The Service of Committal and Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. Friday, January 24, 2020, at Holy Mount Cemetery in Eastchester.
