COOPERSTOWN - Joan Mary McCaffrey, a native of Ireland, passed away early Saturday morning, August 3, 2013, at Otsego Manor. A resident of Cooperstown for the past 9 years, she was 89 years old.
Born May 3, 1924, in Galway, Ireland, she was a daughter of John Joseph and Mabel (Boylan) Glynn. Raised and educated in Ireland, she eventually married James McCaffrey in 1955 and soon after they emigrated to the United States and raised their family.
For many years, Joan resided in Bay Shore on Long Island, where she was employed as a receptionist for South Shore Urology.
She will be remembered for being proud of her Irish heritage, as well as her devotion to the Rosary which she recited innumerable times throughout her life.
Joan is survived by one daughter, Ann M. Marsala and her husband, Joseph, of Cooperstown; two sons, Peter McCaffrey of Manhattan and John McCaffrey and his wife, Kathy, of Clayton, North Carolina; and three granddaughters, Gianna and Erin Marsala and Kayla McCaffrey.
She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1966, and all of her siblings.
A Memorial Service will be offered at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown, with Deacon Randy Velez officiating.
As an alternative to flowers, expressions of sympathy in the form of memorial gifts may be made to a charity of one's choice.
